FBCI Mission: To advance the knowledge and use of, and develop standards for, Form-Based Codes as a method to achieve a community vision based on time-tested forms of urbanism.
The Form-Based Codes Institute (FBCI) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and use of form-based codes. FBCI pursues this objective through three main areas of action.
- We develop standards for form-based codes. Our board members continually review and write codes, gathering an enormous body of knowledge and expertise that puts us among the world’s leading experts on form-based codes. We highlight the best, draw out the essential elements of a well-crafted code, and share these as examples to study and use.
- We provide education. Through courses, workshops and webinars, our instructors interact directly with professional architects and planners, engineers, elected officials and citizen volunteers engaged in planning for their communities. We continue developing new educational approaches and techniques to further spread knowledge of FBCs.
- We create a forum for discussion and advancement of form-based codes. The Form-Based Codes Institute seeks the widespread adoption of well-crafted and effective codes. We interact with professionals across a wide range of disciplines to foster discussion and reach consensus on the highest standards for form-based codes.
